This external audit ensures with certainty that 100% of the CO2e volume you contributed to Greentripper is dedicated exclusively to your preferred project.
   
   
   


2. When you contribute to climate projects through Greentripper, you get a certificate that guarantees that each tonne CO2e for which you have financially contribuuted, is reduced, sequestred or avoided through the climate project of your choice. The 'Certified CO2e-contribution' label is included in the certificate for your global climate action and the 'Sustainable Local Contribution' label is included in the certificate for your local climate action.
   
   
3. For your global climate actions, Greentripper works with climate projects that meet the most stringent international standards such as the Gold Standard or VCS. These projects are examined annually to ensure that their impact on climate change is truly effective. Carbon credits are issued in this certified system per tonne of CO2e actually reduced. These credits are placed in a register and withdrawn once they are sold, to ensure that they are sold only once..
   
   
   
   
   Once the project has been audited, its certification is issued, and every tonne of CO2e saved is booked and traceable. This process is called carbon crediting. Each carbon credit is equivalent to one tonne of carbon dioxide avoided, reduced or absorbed by a climate project. These credits are called "Verified Emission Reductions" (VERs). The monitoring is verified by internationally recognised independent offset / contribution auditors such as DNV, TÜV or SGS. The auditors are appointed and inspected by the Gold Standard, for example, or by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC). These audit offices verify whether a project is implementing and operating in accordance with a particular set of rules, known as a "standard."
   
   For your local climate action, in collaboration with Soil Capital, the climate impact of each farm is conducted and verified in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 14064-2

Greentripper is based on 2 main methodologies:

• The Bilan Carbone © approach of ADEME, which stands for Agence de l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de L’Energie, i.e. the Environment and Energy Management Agency in France. This semi-public organisation is recognised worldwide for their greenhouse gas emission calculation tool/method known by the name of Bilan Carbone ©. The ADEME is one of the pioneers for the calculation of greenhouse gases and the conversion into CO2 equivalent in accordance with the Global Warming Potential (GWP), i.e. the contribution to the greenhouse effect.
• DEFRA, The Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (GOV.UK) which provide conversion factors allowing organizations and individuals to calculate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from a range of activities, including energy use, water consumption, waste disposal, recycling and transport activities. It is a standard compliant to GHG (Greenhouse Gas) Protocol.

The Greentripper team can calculate the carbon footprint of your activities and travel with great precision, but that requires a great deal of information and data. We work with means and resources which are defined by ADEME & DEFRA and accepted by the sector.

Travelling is among the crucial parts of the human lifestyle. It connects people from around the world and create new experiences. Unfortunately, it has an impact on the climate and the environment. Greentripper gives you the opportunity to be aware of your impact by calculating it, to be able to act on it and finally to give you the opportunity to give back in line with your travel impact.

Before contributing financially for our CO2e-emissions, we should ask ourselves how we can reduce its impact on our planet. For the climate, it is obviously preferable not to take transportation such as the plane or the car, but we don't always have a choice. It is better to contribute to a reduction and support climate projects than to do nothing at all!

A financial CO2e contribution, is not the solution to fight climate change, but it is definitely a part of the solution.

Thanks to your contribution we are also bolstering the Sustainable Development Goals in developing countries. More specifically, the climate projects with which CO2logic and Greentripper work are located in developing countries, thereby enabling the local populations to combine socio-economic development with the reduction of CO2e emissions on a global level.

No, the possibility of a double carbon offset / contribution is very very low.

First an explanation about the EU-ETS System. The EU ETS was set up in 2005 and was the world's first international emissions trading system. The EU ETS is now into its fourth trading phase (2021-2030). It is essentially a market-based mechanism for putting a price on carbon. It sets an absolute limit or ‘cap' on the total amount of certain greenhouse gases that can be emitted each year by the entities covered by the system (with the highest CO2e emissions). This cap is reduced over time so that total emissions fall. Under the EU ETS, regulated entities buy or receive emissions allowances, which they can trade with one another as needed. At the end of each year, regulated entities must surrender enough allowances to cover all of their emissions. The sectors covered by the existing EU ETS include power and heat generation, energy-intensive industrial sectors and aviation within Europe.

On 14 July 2021, the European Commission adopted a series of legislative proposals setting out how it intends to achieve climate neutrality in the EU by 2050 including the intermediate target of an at least 55% net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Concerning aviation, the Commission also proposes to gradually remove free emissions allowances for the aviation sector, which is already covered by the EU ETS, and to move to full auctioning of allowances by 2027 to create a stronger price signal to drive emissions reduction. The total number of aviation allowances in the ETS will be capped at current levels and be reduced annually by 4.2% (the linear reduction factor). The EU ETS currently only applies to flights between airports located in the EEA. (For the treatment of flights to/from the EU/EEA and UK, see here.) The Commission is proposing to implement the global Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) scheme for international flights.

Het effect van stralingsforcering, dat het broeikaseffect verdubbelt, wordt niet meegerekend. Ook worden broeikasgasemissies van bron tot opslagreservoir niet meegenomen. (4) Dit programma is alleen van toepassing op internationale vluchten en alle emissies van binnenlandse vluchten worden niet meegerekend.
